Chuck started this project as a simple alphabet book. He was inspired to expand and the book with a broad selection of inspirational, sometimes humorous, and always heartfelt anecdotes, memories, favorite recipes, and reflections on his own journey as an Alzheimer’s caregiver, and life afterward.
the Author
Chuck Pennington has lived in Wilmington, North Carolina, since 1995. He and his late partner, Dennis Madsen, rescued the historic Benjamin Beery Home, and transformed the decaying mansion into an award-winning inn, The Verandas. As a team, Chuck and Dennis hosted hundreds of guests at the Verandas, until Dennis was diagnosed, then passed away, of Alzheimer’s.

Nick Mijak is the artist behind the dreamy watercolor illustrations in An Alzheimer’s Caregiver Alphabet. Largely self-taught, Nick started his career as a cartoonist, and produced a portfolio of more than 1000 pieces of art from which the illustrations to accompany the 26 letters of the alphabet were chosen.
